Issues with PaperCut client and macOS Sierra
Client Fails to Pop-Up
Check if Client is Installed
Verify the PaperCut client is installed.
\Program Files(x86)\PaperCut NG Client/PCClient.exe
If the PaperCut Client cannot connect to the PaperCut application server, then the PaperCut Client will sleep. Check that the internet connection is working. If on a wireless connection, ensure the connection is to Tempest. Verify that you can connect to the PaperCut application server. In a web browser, go to https://print.usm.maine.edu:9192/app.
Launch Client Manually
By default, users are allowed to quit the PaperCut client. If the client has been closed, then it may need to be launched manually. Navigate to the PCClient.exe (on Windows) or PCClient.app (Mac OS X) (see Check if Client is Installed above for location information) and manually launch the application. If problem reoccurs frequently, contact the Help Desk and they can change a configuration file to prevent users from quitting the application.
Unable to Print in Color
Users printing from Laptop print queues (i.e. USM-LAW-Laptop, LAW-Laptop), then the PaperCut clients are currently only configured for Greyscale printing. Since it is not feasible for IT to support driver installation on students personal computers, EUT is in progress of trying to find a suitable driver that is included by default in major Operating Systems that the client will be able to point to in order to allow color printing. The work around for now is to use a University owned Lab or Public Access computer to print directly to a color printer (NOT through the Laptop queues).
Re-install the Client
If concerned about a corrupt installation, the client can be uninstalled and then reinstalled.
PaperCut can be uninstalled from Windows using Windows and Features, Add/Remove Programs. In Control Panel, Printers, remove old PaperCut printer queues.
To re-install, most users can go to https://usm.maine.edu/computing/laptop-payprint-system for the Windows PaperCut Download. Although for users who are with Maine LAW, see Michelene Decrow (email@example.com) for the appropriate client.
Mac OS X
The PCClient.app can be dragged to the Trash to uninstall it from Mac OS X. In Control Panel, Printers, remove old PaperCut printer queues.
