An employee may be terminated after exhaustion of sick leave when he/she cannot perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation. Where operationally feasible, an employee suffering temporary disability which continues after exhaustion of sick leave may be granted leave without pay by the department for purposes of recovery or rehabilitation. At any time, the employee may be required to be examined by a physician of the University's choice to determine his/her ability to perform the essential duties of the position.


If employee is approved for Long-Term Disability, they may be eligible to have certain benefits like health insurance continued for a limited time.  The Employee Benefits Center will notify impacted employees of any benefits continuation rights and enrollment procedures.
