Eligible Seasonal/Temporary Employees

Health Care Reform - Employer Mandate

Effective January 1, 2015, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires that anyone working 30 or more hours per week be offered affordable employer-provided health insurance. UMS already offers benefits to all regular employees who work 20 or more hours per week, however, temporary employees may become eligible under this new law.

The Employee Benefits Center will contact eligible temporary employees who will be offered coverage.  There is a 90-day waiting period before coverage automatically becomes effective with the cost of coverage automatically deducted unless employees specifically waive coverage.

CIGNA Choice Plan

The CIGNA Choice Plan is a high deductible health plan (HDHP) that uses a national Preferred Provider network and covers a wide array of medical services.  All in-network preventive care is 100% covered with no deductibles or copayments. The plan has an annual deductible—and after that is met—any in-network (non-preventive) services are covered at 90%, with a 10% co-insurance until the annual out of pocket maximum is reached.  Eligible employees must meet a 90-day waiting period before coverage is effective.
