First Class is an email and "black-board-like" system used by University of Maine Orono. It should be phasing in the next couple years (~2018). If students don't need First Class class resources, it is recommended they use GMail instead.


"First class client cannot be opened because it's from an unidentified developer. Your security preference only allows downloads from the mac store and identified developers."


OS X 10.10 or 10.11

You may want to use a panel to highlight important steps.
  1. Click the Apple icon in the upper-left of the Desktop, select System Preferences... from the drop-down menu.
  2. Select Security & Privacy from the first row.
  3. If the Lock icon in the bottom left is locked, click the Lock icon and authenticate to unlock.
  4. On the General tab, near the bottom under Allow Apps downloaded from: select the radial for Anywhere.

  5. At warning prompt, click Allow from Anywhere
  6. Click the Lock icon to lock.
  7. Close System Preferences...

OS X 10.12

Gatekeeper in OS X 10.12 no longer has the option to Allow from Anywhere, so it requires software to be signed. (The client available at is not  a signed version). Users can get a signed version of the client direct from OpenText FirstClass.
